  • by the friends and partners of Christ for All Nations.
  • 00:00:03.000 --> 00:00:06.230
  • (Music) Coming up on Christ for All Nations...
  • 00:00:06.270 --> 00:00:10.120
  • DANIEL KOLENDA- If you're going through a wilderness,
  • 00:00:11.230 --> 00:00:13.090
  • you may feel confused and disillusioned. But trusting
  • 00:00:13.130 --> 00:00:15.120
  • God is really not an option. In fact, you need to trust Him
  • 00:00:15.160 --> 00:00:18.110
  • now more than ever. You know, when you're drowning, that's
  • 00:00:18.150 --> 00:00:21.040
  • not the time to throw away your life preserver. Our trust
  • 00:00:21.080 --> 00:00:24.210
  • in God is the key; not only for surviving our wilderness,
  • 00:00:24.250 --> 00:00:28.070
  • but for fulfilling everything that is God's will in our lives.
  • 00:00:28.110 --> 00:00:31.250
  • (Music)
  • 00:00:31.290 --> 00:00:41.110
  • REINHARD BONNKE- He has come to break every chain
  • 00:00:41.150 --> 00:00:43.140
  • and to unlock every prison door.
  • 00:00:43.180 --> 00:00:47.210
  • DANIEL KOLENDA- He turns darkness into light.
  • 00:00:49.190 --> 00:00:52.240
  • He turns sin into salvation. He turns bondage into freedom.
  • 00:00:52.280 --> 00:00:59.020
  • And He changes us from the inside out.
  • 00:00:59.060 --> 00:01:01.130
  • (Music)
  • 00:01:01.170 --> 00:01:11.200
  • DANIEL- Hello everybody. Welcome to another broadcast
  • 00:01:11.240 --> 00:01:13.240
  • of Christ for All Nations. I'm your host, Daniel Kolenda. And
  • 00:01:13.280 --> 00:01:16.290
  • today is Part 2 of my teaching series, Surviving your
  • 00:01:17.030 --> 00:01:20.030
  • Wilderness. I know that you're gonna be blessed. And before
  • 00:01:20.070 --> 00:01:22.280
  • we get to it, I want to just remind you as always to send
  • 00:01:23.020 --> 00:01:25.090
  • in those prayer requests. We are gonna be praying for you
  • 00:01:25.130 --> 00:01:28.100
  • and believing God for a mighty miracle in your life. I don't
  • 00:01:28.140 --> 00:01:31.020
  • know if you've ever seen the pictures or the videos, but we
  • 00:01:31.060 --> 00:01:33.210
  • actually take these prayer requests with us to the field
  • 00:01:33.250 --> 00:01:37.070
  • in Africa. We hand carry them in suitcases. And there on the
  • 00:01:37.110 --> 00:01:41.020
  • field, with hundreds of thousands of people present,
  • 00:01:41.060 --> 00:01:43.130
  • we lay hands on them. We pray for them. Believe God for
  • 00:01:43.170 --> 00:01:46.050
  • great miracles in the lives of all of the people that have
  • 00:01:46.090 --> 00:01:48.180
  • sent in those requests. And we hear amazing testimonies. So,
  • 00:01:48.220 --> 00:01:52.110
  • I want you to send in those prayer request today so we can
  • 00:01:52.150 --> 00:01:54.170
  • pray for you. And when you do, I want to send you this little
  • 00:01:54.210 --> 00:01:57.020
  • book called, How to Receive a Miracle from God. This was
  • 00:01:57.060 --> 00:02:00.020
  • written by Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke. And it's a booklet
  • 00:02:00.060 --> 00:02:02.200
  • that will help build your faith and prepare you for a
  • 00:02:02.240 --> 00:02:05.220
  • miracle from God. It's not for sale. It's just a gift that we
  • 00:02:05.260 --> 00:02:08.210
  • want to sow into your life today as a way to bless you.
  • 00:02:08.250 --> 00:02:11.270
  • Now as you're sending in your prayer requests, I want to
  • 00:02:12.010 --> 00:02:13.240
  • play for you a little testimony. This is an amazing
  • 00:02:13.280 --> 00:02:16.080
  • miracle that happened recently at one of our gospel crusades.
  • 00:02:16.120 --> 00:02:18.250
  • I want this to build your faith and prepare you
  • 00:02:18.290 --> 00:02:21.110
  • for you own miracle from God. Watch this.
  • 00:02:21.150 --> 00:02:23.180
  • (Background music)
  • 00:02:24.260 --> 00:02:28.060
  • SALA YESSENAWA'S TRANSLATOR- Four months after giving birth
  • 00:02:28.100 --> 00:02:29.170
  • to my daughter, I started to feel a small pain in my little
  • 00:02:29.210 --> 00:02:32.280
  • toe. Slowly, as time passed, the pain spread to my back and
  • 00:02:33.020 --> 00:02:36.260
  • then to my entire body. After a few months, I couldn't feel
  • 00:02:37.000 --> 00:02:41.040
  • my legs or walk on my own at all. That was 22 years ago.
  • 00:02:41.080 --> 00:02:46.030
  • (Music)
  • 00:02:46.070 --> 00:02:50.120
  • I became very depressed. I took every medication
  • 00:02:50.160 --> 00:02:53.130
  • imaginable. I even turned to the witch doctors to help.
  • 00:02:53.170 --> 00:02:56.290
  • No one could cure me of the pain.
  • 00:02:57.030 --> 00:02:58.140
  • (Music)
  • 00:02:58.180 --> 00:03:07.050
  • DANIEL- What was wrong with her? (Translator)
  • 00:03:07.090 --> 00:03:09.200
  • DAUGHTER- (different language)
  • 00:03:09.240 --> 00:03:14.170
  • TRANSLATOR- (subtitles)
  • 00:03:14.210 --> 00:03:22.220
  • DANIEL- Totally paralyzed. (Translator)
  • 00:03:22.260 --> 00:03:23.280
  • DAUGHTER- (different language)
  • 00:03:24.020 --> 00:03:28.160
  • DAUGHTER'S TRANSLATOR- It was very difficult to see
  • 00:03:28.200 --> 00:03:30.200
  • my mother in pain. I never stopped praying to God for a
  • 00:03:30.240 --> 00:03:33.290
  • miracle. I knew that He would heal her. I never lost faith.
  • 00:03:34.030 --> 00:03:39.170
  • SALA'S TRANSLATOR- I'm very grateful that my husband was
  • 00:03:43.150 --> 00:03:45.040
  • able to continue to provide for our family and help around
  • 00:03:45.080 --> 00:03:48.090
  • the house. My sister invited me to the gospel crusade. I
  • 00:03:48.130 --> 00:03:53.060
  • went to the crusade in faith that Jesus would heal me.
  • 00:03:53.100 --> 00:03:59.140
  • DANIEL- Crippled legs, be healed right now. (Translator)
  • 00:03:59.180 --> 00:04:04.020
  • Broken backs, be healed right now, in Jesus' name. (Translator)
  • 00:04:04.060 --> 00:04:08.280
  • I command all paralysis to come out of your body, in the name of Jesus. (Translator)
  • 00:04:09.020 --> 00:04:15.210
  • Cripples rise up and walk, in the name of Jesus. (Translator) (Crowd noise)

  • Strength is coming into your legs right now, in Jesus' name. (Translator) (Crowd noise)
  • 00:04:26.080 --> 00:04:30.070
  • Strength is coming into your feet, in Jesus' name. (Translator)
  • 00:04:30.110 --> 00:04:33.060
  • Strength is coming into your back, in Jesus' name. (Translator)
  • 00:04:33.100 --> 00:04:36.240
  • Strength is coming into your knees, in Jesus' name. (Translator)
  • 00:04:36.280 --> 00:04:40.170
  • You are rising up...
  • 00:04:40.210 --> 00:04:42.060
  • (Music)
  • 00:04:42.100 --> 00:04:43.290
  • DAUGHTER'S TRANSLATOR- i remember a man in a wheelchair
  • 00:04:44.030 --> 00:04:45.210
  • suddenly up next to me and walking. And then my momma
  • 00:04:45.250 --> 00:04:48.260
  • stood up and started walking on her own, too. She wanted to
  • 00:04:49.000 --> 00:04:52.170
  • go on stage and tell everyone about her miracle.
  • 00:04:52.210 --> 00:04:55.070
  • (Music)
  • 00:04:55.110 --> 00:04:59.040
  • TRANSLATOR- (subtitles)
  • 00:04:59.080 --> 00:05:08.190
  • DANIEL- So, wait a minute, are you telling that she was
  • 00:05:08.230 --> 00:05:10.070
  • totally paralyzed, she couldn't stand? (Translator) She couldn't walk?
  • 00:05:10.110 --> 00:05:13.220
  • DAUGHTER- (different language)
  • 00:05:13.260 --> 00:05:15.180

  • 00:05:56.190 --> 00:05:59.250

  • Jesus is the only Savior. have to and want to worship Him.
  • 00:06:21.040 --> 00:06:26.010
  • (Music)
  • 00:06:26.050 --> 00:06:32.040
  • DANIEL- You know, my friend, what you just witnessed is
  • 00:06:32.080 --> 00:06:34.160
  • what we do here at Christ for All Nations. We don't do a lot
  • 00:06:34.200 --> 00:06:37.160
  • of different things. We don't have a lot of different
  • 00:06:37.200 --> 00:06:39.140
  • activities that we're involved in. We preach the Gospel of
  • 00:06:39.180 --> 00:06:42.040
  • Jesus Christ with signs, and wonders, and miracles
  • 00:06:42.080 --> 00:06:44.200
  • following. And we see entire cities and even nations being
  • 00:06:44.240 --> 00:06:48.240
  • shaken by the power of the Gospel. And I want to ask you
  • 00:06:48.280 --> 00:06:51.010
  • to help us. We really are depending on the support of
  • 00:06:51.050 --> 00:06:54.210
  • God's people as we continue to go from nation to nation
  • 00:06:54.250 --> 00:06:57.210
  • around the world, seeing these amazing things. But if you
  • 00:06:57.250 --> 00:07:00.110
  • don't give, and if you don't pray, we simply cannot go.
  • 00:07:00.150 --> 00:07:03.240
  • My friend, I want to ask you today to become one of the
  • 00:07:03.280 --> 00:07:06.030
  • monthly ministry partners of Christ for All Nations. This
  • 00:07:06.070 --> 00:07:08.270
  • is a very special and important group of people.

  • 00:08:25.210 --> 00:08:28.050
  • Miracles. And this is 12 of the most amazing miracles that
  • 00:08:28.090 --> 00:08:32.110
  • I've seen over the last several years; really amazing
  • 00:08:32.150 --> 00:08:35.110
  • things. People being raised from the dead. You'll see
  • 00:08:35.150 --> 00:08:37.070
  • blind eyes opened right on the platform. Cripples walking.
  • 00:08:37.110 --> 00:08:40.110
  • Amazing, amazing testimonies. I'm gonna sign this and send
  • 00:08:40.150 --> 00:08:43.090
  • it to you just as our way of saying, Thank you for standing
  • 00:08:43.130 --> 00:08:46.250
  • with us in the harvest of souls around the world. I also
  • 00:08:46.290 --> 00:08:50.010
  • am very excited to share with you today, Part 2, of my
  • 00:08:50.050 --> 00:08:52.270
  • teaching series, Surviving Your Wilderness. I believe
  • 00:08:53.010 --> 00:08:55.260
  • that this is going to be a great blessing to you. Maybe
  • 00:08:56.000 --> 00:08:57.140
  • you need this or someone that you know. Believe me, at some
  • 00:08:57.180 --> 00:09:00.080
  • point in your life you're gonna need these Biblical
  • 00:09:00.120 --> 00:09:02.160
  • principles to strengthen you and to bring you through
  • 00:09:02.200 --> 00:09:05.230
  • the valley seasons of life. Have a look.
  • 00:09:05.270 --> 00:09:08.210
  • So, let's re-cap. Survival tip Number 1 - Don't panic.
  • 00:09:10.220 --> 00:09:13.220
  • Survival tip Number 2 - Assess your situation. And now,
  • 00:09:13.260 --> 00:09:16.280
  • survival tip Number 3. If you find yourself stranded in a
  • 00:09:17.020 --> 00:09:20.190
  • physical wilderness situation, the third thing that you need
  • 00:09:20.230 --> 00:09:24.000
  • to do very urgently is to find or build shelter to protect
  • 00:09:24.040 --> 00:09:29.070
  • you from the elements. And spiritually this is also true.
  • 00:09:29.110 --> 00:09:32.290
  • Listen to one of God's promises in Isaiah. Borrowing
  • 00:09:33.030 --> 00:09:35.260
  • language from Israel's wilderness journey, he says:
  • 00:09:36.000 --> 00:09:38.240
  • ...over everything the glory will be a canopy. ...a shelter
  • 00:09:38.280 --> 00:09:43.250
  • and a shade from the heat of the day, a refuge and a hiding
  • 00:09:43.290 --> 00:09:47.060
  • place from the storm and rain. You see, God promised His
  • 00:09:47.100 --> 00:09:51.100
  • presence to Israel as a shelter in the wilderness. And
  • 00:09:51.140 --> 00:09:55.010
  • one major mistake that people make is thinking that the
  • 00:09:55.050 --> 00:09:57.130
  • wilderness is a place where they cannot experience God's
  • 00:09:57.170 --> 00:10:00.230
  • presence. But my friend, that just is not true. Barren lands
  • 00:10:00.270 --> 00:10:05.090
  • may lack many conveniences, but they never lack God's
  • 00:10:05.130 --> 00:10:08.130
  • presence. The child of God is never cut off from God. In
  • 00:10:08.170 --> 00:10:13.080
  • fact, the opposite is actually true. God's presence is our
  • 00:10:13.120 --> 00:10:16.120
  • safe place in the desert more than ever. We can actually
  • 00:10:16.160 --> 00:10:19.170
  • come to know His presence in new and greater dimensions
  • 00:10:19.210 --> 00:10:22.230
  • than ever before in the wilderness. So, how do you
  • 00:10:22.270 --> 00:10:25.290
  • find shelter in the wilderness? You do it by
  • 00:10:26.030 --> 00:10:28.250
  • seeking God all the more diligently as an oasis in the
  • 00:10:28.290 --> 00:10:32.100
  • desert, and by cultivating the habit of running to Him and
  • 00:10:32.140 --> 00:10:37.050
  • remaining in Him. We read in Psalm, 46:1: God is our refuge
  • 00:10:37.090 --> 00:10:42.250
  • and strength, a very present help in trouble. My friend,
  • 00:10:42.290 --> 00:10:45.150
  • never is God more with His people than in the wilderness.
  • 00:10:45.190 --> 00:10:49.230
  • So, no matter how discouraged you feel, rouse yourself to
  • 00:10:49.270 --> 00:10:53.030
  • seek Jesus. He is so near to you right now. He said, I am
  • 00:10:53.070 --> 00:10:57.060
  • with you always. He said, I will never leave you and I
  • 00:10:57.100 --> 00:11:00.240
  • will never forsake you. So, survival tip, Number 4 - Build
  • 00:11:00.280 --> 00:11:07.010
  • a fire. You know, a fire is a great thing to have if you're
  • 00:11:07.050 --> 00:11:10.210
  • in the wilderness. It can dry wet clothes. It can be used to
  • 00:11:10.250 --> 00:11:13.010
  • keep the body warm. It can be used to purify water. In fact,
  • 00:11:13.050 --> 00:11:16.050
  • experts say that a fire even has psychological effects.
  • 00:11:16.090 --> 00:11:21.050
  • It boosts morale during survival situations. Imagine how
  • 00:11:21.090 --> 00:11:25.000
  • comforting the light and warmth of a fire would be
  • 00:11:25.040 --> 00:11:27.230
  • if you were alone in the wilderness. And in our
  • 00:11:27.270 --> 00:11:30.020
  • spiritual lives, we also need the fire to survive. You know,
  • 00:11:30.060 --> 00:11:34.200
  • wilderness seasons have a tendency of making us
  • 00:11:34.240 --> 00:11:36.260
  • vulnerable to negative attitudes. Sometimes
  • 00:11:37.000 --> 00:11:40.050
  • depression can soak us like a cold rain. Anger can sneak in
  • 00:11:40.090 --> 00:11:44.180
  • and contaminate the thoughts we think. But God's fire
  • 00:11:44.220 --> 00:11:47.290
  • purifies and it brings warmth and it brings light. But
  • 00:11:48.030 --> 00:11:52.050
  • what does that look like practically? What is God's
  • 00:11:52.090 --> 00:11:54.180
  • fire for a personal desert? Well when God established His
  • 00:11:54.220 --> 00:11:59.060
  • presence among the Israelites in the wilderness, He taught
  • 00:11:59.100 --> 00:12:02.050
  • them to worship. And fire was at the center of that worship.
  • 00:12:02.090 --> 00:12:06.280
  • Listen to Leviticus, 9:23-24. It says that: Moses and Aaron
  • 00:12:07.020 --> 00:12:11.040
  • went into the tent of meeting. And when they came out and
  • 00:12:11.080 --> 00:12:14.110
  • blessed the people, the glory of the LORD appeared to all
  • 00:12:14.150 --> 00:12:17.150
  • the people. Then the fire came out from before the LORD and
  • 00:12:17.190 --> 00:12:20.280
  • consumed the burnt offering and the portions of fat on the
  • 00:12:21.020 --> 00:12:24.070
  • altar; and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell
  • 00:12:24.110 --> 00:12:27.010
  • on their faces. Now I want you to notice that Israel did not
  • 00:12:27.050 --> 00:12:31.190
  • start its own fire. The Lord started the fire. We never
  • 00:12:31.230 --> 00:12:34.140
  • have to worry about lighting our own fire. The fire on
  • 00:12:34.180 --> 00:12:38.000
  • Israel's altar came from the Lord's presence. And in the
  • 00:12:38.040 --> 00:12:40.240
  • same way, the Lord is the one that ignites the flame on the
  • 00:12:40.280 --> 00:12:44.000
  • altar of our hearts. So, lighting the fire is not our
  • 00:12:44.040 --> 00:12:47.100
  • job. But stewarding that fire and keeping it burning, that
  • 00:12:47.140 --> 00:12:51.050
  • is our job. Leviticus, 6:13, says: The fire must be
  • 00:12:51.090 --> 00:12:54.270
  • kept burning on the altar continuously, it must not go
  • 00:12:55.010 --> 00:12:58.210
  • out. Worship touches God in His depths when it burns from
  • 00:12:58.250 --> 00:13:04.040
  • our depths. God wants to set us on fire in the wilderness
  • 00:13:04.080 --> 00:13:07.210
  • so He can bring us into our destiny. He wants to bring
  • 00:13:07.250 --> 00:13:10.290
  • people who have learned how to truly worship like Job, when
  • 00:13:11.030 --> 00:13:14.060
  • he said, The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; but
  • 00:13:14.100 --> 00:13:17.150
  • blessed be the name of the Lord. So, my friend, if you've
  • 00:13:17.190 --> 00:13:20.010
  • lost the sense of God's fire amid the harsh conditions of
  • 00:13:20.050 --> 00:13:24.170
  • your personal desert, then turn to God today. Engulf your
  • 00:13:24.210 --> 00:13:29.020
  • wilderness in a blaze of worship. Now, survival tip
  • 00:13:29.060 --> 00:13:34.140
  • Number 5 - You need to drink some water. You know,
  • 00:13:34.180 --> 00:13:40.250
  • hydration is obviously essential to survive in
  • 00:13:40.290 --> 00:13:44.040
  • natural wilderness. In Scripture, water is often used
  • 00:13:44.080 --> 00:13:49.250
  • as a picture of the Holy Spirit. In Joel, chapter 2,
  • 00:13:49.290 --> 00:13:53.190
  • verse 23, the Lord declares Israel's future restoration by
  • 00:13:53.230 --> 00:13:57.180
  • reminding them that God has poured down for you the latter
  • 00:13:57.220 --> 00:14:00.230
  • rain. The early and the latter rain as before. And then, he
  • 00:14:00.270 --> 00:14:04.150
  • applies that same imagery to the outpouring of the Holy
  • 00:14:04.190 --> 00:14:06.230
  • Spirit later in verse 28, saying: ...I will pour out my
  • 00:14:06.270 --> 00:14:10.100
  • Spirit upon all people. Now when Joel's prophecy was
  • 00:14:10.140 --> 00:14:14.060
  • fulfilled on the day of Pentecost, it says in Acts,
  • 00:14:14.100 --> 00:14:16.270
  • 2:4, that the disciples were all filled with the Holy
  • 00:14:17.010 --> 00:14:20.270
  • Spirit, as if filled with water. And then they began to
  • 00:14:21.010 --> 00:14:24.090
  • speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them
  • 00:14:24.130 --> 00:14:27.110
  • utterance. Now listen to what the Apostle Paul told
  • 00:14:27.150 --> 00:14:30.150
  • Christians who were in the midst of intense battle. In
  • 00:14:30.190 --> 00:14:33.250
  • Ephesians, 6:18, he said: Through every kind of prayer
  • 00:14:33.290 --> 00:14:36.120
  • and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit... And
  • 00:14:36.160 --> 00:14:40.270
  • Jude tells believers facing trouble: ...you, beloved, keep
  • 00:14:41.010 --> 00:14:44.200
  • yourselves in God's love by building yourselves up on your
  • 00:14:44.240 --> 00:14:48.240
  • most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. You know, one
  • 00:14:48.280 --> 00:14:53.230
  • of the most refreshing things that you can do is pray in the
  • 00:14:53.270 --> 00:14:56.120
  • Spirit. It's like hydrating your spirit man. It's like
  • 00:14:56.160 --> 00:14:59.150
  • drinking a tall, crystal clear glass of water. Listen to what
  • 00:14:59.190 --> 00:15:03.210
  • the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians, 14:4, about one
  • 00:15:03.250 --> 00:15:07.010
  • kind of praying in the Spirit, speaking in tongues. He said,
  • 00:15:07.050 --> 00:15:10.120
  • The person that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies
  • 00:15:10.160 --> 00:15:13.110
  • himself... You know that verb, edify, means more than just to
  • 00:15:13.150 --> 00:15:17.020
  • encourage. The original word actually means to construct,
  • 00:15:17.060 --> 00:15:20.210
  • to strengthen, or to restore. In other words, through
  • 00:15:20.250 --> 00:15:23.240
  • speaking in tongues, the Spirit not only encourages our
  • 00:15:23.280 --> 00:15:27.090
  • hearts, but it also builds up our inner person. My friend,
  • 00:15:27.130 --> 00:15:31.030
  • if you're in a spiritual desert, you need to drink
  • 00:15:31.070 --> 00:15:34.030
  • deeply and often of your internal resources by praying
  • 00:15:34.070 --> 00:15:37.170
  • in the Spirit. It will quench your thirst. It will fortify
  • 00:15:37.210 --> 00:15:41.040
  • your soul. It will keep you from spiritual dehydration
  • 00:15:41.080 --> 00:15:44.200
  • during dry times. Now if you've not yet received the
  • 00:15:44.240 --> 00:15:47.150
  • fullness of the Holy Spirit, I would just encourage you to
  • 00:15:47.190 --> 00:15:51.190
  • ask your pastor or another spirit-filled believer to pray
  • 00:15:51.230 --> 00:15:54.220
  • with you because this is a gift that God wants all of His
  • 00:15:54.260 --> 00:15:58.130
  • children to have. And it will make all the difference in
  • 00:15:58.170 --> 00:16:01.190
  • your life. Survival tip Number 6 is find nourishment. You
  • 00:16:01.230 --> 00:16:10.120
  • know, as God's people we already know our source of
  • 00:16:10.160 --> 00:16:12.150
  • nourishment in the wilderness. I mentioned the Word of God
  • 00:16:12.190 --> 00:16:15.020
  • under survival tip Number 2. Israel refused it in their
  • 00:16:15.060 --> 00:16:18.230
  • wilderness. But Jesus welcomed it in His. Remember, he said,
  • 00:16:18.270 --> 00:16:22.100
  • Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that
  • 00:16:22.140 --> 00:16:25.200
  • comes from the mouth of God. This verse means that along
  • 00:16:25.240 --> 00:16:28.180
  • with the Spirit, God's Word is the essence of human life.
  • 00:16:28.220 --> 00:16:32.050
  • But this is what you have to understand, Jesus Himself is
  • 00:16:32.090 --> 00:16:36.170
  • the Word. I'm not just talking right now about reading the
  • 00:16:36.210 --> 00:16:39.160
  • Bible, although that's part of it. I'm talking about imbibing
  • 00:16:39.200 --> 00:16:42.280
  • Christ Himself. You know, when John said in his Gospel that
  • 00:16:43.020 --> 00:16:47.210
  • Jesus was the Word made Flesh, he didn't just mean that
  • 00:16:47.250 --> 00:16:49.230
  • Jesus is the Bible. He meant that Jesus is the perfect
  • 00:16:49.270 --> 00:16:53.220
  • embodiment of every expression and every word of God. Now the
  • 00:16:53.260 --> 00:16:58.090
  • Scriptures, the Bible tells us are God breathed. That means
  • 00:16:58.130 --> 00:17:01.110
  • that with every word, with every line, they point with
  • 00:17:01.150 --> 00:17:03.280
  • both hands to Christ. So, I want to encourage you, my
  • 00:17:04.020 --> 00:17:06.250
  • friend, to read the Bible with an ulterior motive. And that
  • 00:17:06.290 --> 00:17:10.270
  • motive is to encounter Jesus. You know, for me, when I read
  • 00:17:11.010 --> 00:17:14.190
  • the Bible, I read it as a means to an end. The end is to
  • 00:17:14.230 --> 00:17:18.210
  • come in contact with the living Christ. This is where
  • 00:17:18.250 --> 00:17:21.250
  • you and I get nourishment. Not just from reading, but from
  • 00:17:21.290 --> 00:17:24.180
  • partaking of Jesus. You know the saying you are what you
  • 00:17:24.220 --> 00:17:28.030
  • eat? Listen to what Jesus said in John, chapter 6, verse 51:
  • 00:17:28.070 --> 00:17:32.040
  • I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever
  • 00:17:32.080 --> 00:17:36.140
  • eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my
  • 00:17:36.180 --> 00:17:39.060
  • flesh, which I give for the life of the world. Verse 54:
  • 00:17:39.100 --> 00:17:43.070
  • Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal
  • 00:17:43.110 --> 00:17:45.220
  • life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh
  • 00:17:45.260 --> 00:17:49.090
  • is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my
  • 00:17:49.130 --> 00:17:53.110
  • flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.
  • 00:17:53.150 --> 00:17:57.270
  • My friend, listen, if you're in a wilderness this is so
  • 00:17:58.010 --> 00:18:00.040
  • important. You need to come to the living Christ and feast
  • 00:18:00.080 --> 00:18:04.100
  • on Him every day. He is the source of life in the desert.
  • 00:18:04.140 --> 00:18:08.010
  • Yes, read the Bible, meditate on it, memorize it. But don't
  • 00:18:08.050 --> 00:18:11.010
  • just come to black ink on pieces of paper. Let the
  • 00:18:11.050 --> 00:18:14.090
  • Scriptures lead you to the Word made Flesh, Jesus
  • 00:18:14.130 --> 00:18:17.130
  • Himself. Feast on Him and you will become what you eat. So,
  • 00:18:17.170 --> 00:18:22.100
  • now let's just summarize the points that we've covered.
  • 00:18:22.140 --> 00:18:26.190
  • Survival tip Number 6 - Find nourishment. Feast on Jesus in
  • 00:18:26.230 --> 00:18:29.060
  • prayer and meditation in God's Word, as well as in radical
  • 00:18:29.100 --> 00:18:32.210
  • faith and obedience. Number 5 - Drink water. Keep yourself
  • 00:18:32.250 --> 00:18:37.100
  • spiritually hydrated by praying long and often in the
  • 00:18:37.140 --> 00:18:41.000
  • Spirit. Number 4 - Build a fire. Set your wilderness
  • 00:18:41.040 --> 00:18:44.240
  • ablaze with worship. Number 3 - Find shelter. Know that God
  • 00:18:44.280 --> 00:18:49.110
  • is present to you now more than ever and hide yourself in
  • 00:18:49.150 --> 00:18:52.180
  • Him. Number 2 - Assess your situation. Identify the kind
  • 00:18:52.220 --> 00:18:58.030
  • of wilderness that you're in so you'll know how to navigate
  • 00:18:58.070 --> 00:19:00.110
  • it. And then take stock of your resources, and then use
  • 00:19:00.150 --> 00:19:04.020
  • those resources as well. And then survival tip Number 1 -
  • 00:19:04.060 --> 00:19:06.280
  • Don't panic. Refuse fear. Refuse to question God and
  • 00:19:07.020 --> 00:19:11.290
  • determine to trust Him, and rest in His love for you. This
  • 00:19:12.030 --> 00:19:15.120
  • is where we started, and this is also where we're gonna end,
  • 00:19:15.160 --> 00:19:17.190
  • with trust. Remember, we heard from Dr. Crandall about how he
  • 00:19:17.230 --> 00:19:22.220
  • determined to believe God no matter what. And remember how
  • 00:19:22.260 --> 00:19:26.010
  • we talked about cultivating an earnest determination to
  • 00:19:26.050 --> 00:19:29.080
  • believe God. But my friend, you know, at the end of the
  • 00:19:29.120 --> 00:19:31.230
  • day, what choice do we really have? Remember that passage we
  • 00:19:31.270 --> 00:19:35.270
  • read earlier from John, 6, where Jesus told the people to
  • 00:19:36.010 --> 00:19:38.130
  • eat His flesh and drink His blood? Well this was actually
  • 00:19:38.170 --> 00:19:42.070
  • very offensive when He said it to religious Jews of His day.
  • 00:19:42.110 --> 00:19:45.250
  • And the Bible says that at that time many of Jesus'
  • 00:19:45.290 --> 00:19:48.190
  • disciples left Him. But after that, Jesus looked at the
  • 00:19:48.230 --> 00:19:51.080
  • twelve disciples and He said to them, Are you gonna leave
  • 00:19:51.120 --> 00:19:54.210
  • me too? And in verse 68, Peter said this. He said: ...Lord,
  • 00:19:54.250 --> 00:19:59.210
  • to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. And
  • 00:19:59.250 --> 00:20:04.190
  • my friend, you know, that's really what, what it boils
  • 00:20:04.230 --> 00:20:06.090
  • down to today. Where else are you gonna go? What other
  • 00:20:06.130 --> 00:20:10.030
  • alternative do you have? If you're going through a
  • 00:20:10.070 --> 00:20:13.120
  • wilderness, you may feel confused and disillusioned.
  • 00:20:13.160 --> 00:20:16.140
  • But trusting God is really not an option. In fact, you need
  • 00:20:16.180 --> 00:20:19.190
  • to trust Him now more than ever. I remember Evangelist
  • 00:20:19.230 --> 00:20:23.020
  • Bonnke saying once to a person who had just gone through a
  • 00:20:23.060 --> 00:20:25.080
  • terrible tragedy and they said that they were losing their
  • 00:20:25.120 --> 00:20:28.220
  • faith. Pastor Bonnke said, You know, when you're drowning,
  • 00:20:28.260 --> 00:20:31.280
  • that's not the time to throw away your life preserver.
  • 00:20:32.020 --> 00:20:35.050
  • My friend, our trust in God is the key; not only for
  • 00:20:35.090 --> 00:20:38.280
  • surviving our wilderness, but for fulfilling everything that is God's will in our lives.
  • 00:20:39.020 --> 00:20:44.160
  • (Music) & (Sound of waves lapping)
  • 00:20:44.200 --> 00:20:56.210
  • The ocean is a beautiful thing, isn't it? Especially on
  • 00:20:56.250 --> 00:20:59.070
  • a beautiful, peaceful day like today. But it can also be
  • 00:20:59.110 --> 00:21:02.200
  • terrifying. In Scripture, the sea represents the unknown,
  • 00:21:02.240 --> 00:21:06.200
  • something terrifying and dangerous. Kind of like the
  • 00:21:06.240 --> 00:21:09.090
  • wilderness; the sea symbolized a place no one wanted to go.
  • 00:21:09.130 --> 00:21:13.030
  • You know, a couple of days ago I was given these fascinating
  • 00:21:13.070 --> 00:21:15.150
  • mementos, which I'll tell you about in just a moment. But as
  • 00:21:15.190 --> 00:21:18.230
  • I sit here today on a little boat in the Atlantic Ocean,
  • 00:21:18.270 --> 00:21:22.030
  • they take on a very special meaning and significance. You
  • 00:21:22.070 --> 00:21:25.100
  • see, these documents belonged to a man that lived in the
  • 00:21:25.140 --> 00:21:28.180
  • mid-1800s by the name of Horatio Spafford. He was a
  • 00:21:28.220 --> 00:21:32.020
  • wealthy Chicago lawyer from a prominent family. He was also
  • 00:21:32.060 --> 00:21:35.120
  • an investor who owned many properties in downtown
  • 00:21:35.160 --> 00:21:37.290
  • Chicago. And he was also a colleague of the famous
  • 00:21:38.030 --> 00:21:41.050
  • evangelist, D.L. Moody. Now you may have heard of the
  • 00:21:41.090 --> 00:21:44.010
  • great Chicago fire that devastated Chicago in 1871. It
  • 00:21:44.050 --> 00:21:48.250
  • was a tragic event in which many people lost lives and
  • 00:21:48.290 --> 00:21:51.190
  • fortunes. And Horatio lived in Chicago during that time. And
  • 00:21:51.230 --> 00:21:55.160
  • although he survived, nearly all of his fortune went up in
  • 00:21:55.200 --> 00:21:58.140
  • smoke, literally. But instead of letting the disaster tear
  • 00:21:58.180 --> 00:22:02.170
  • his life and his family apart, he, his wife, Anna, and their
  • 00:22:02.210 --> 00:22:06.260
  • four daughters spent the next two years helping those that
  • 00:22:07.000 --> 00:22:10.150
  • had been affected by the fire; feeding the homeless, and
  • 00:22:10.190 --> 00:22:13.030
  • comforting the grief stricken. A couple of years later after
  • 00:22:13.070 --> 00:22:16.080
  • so much work and difficulty, Horatio decided to take his
  • 00:22:16.120 --> 00:22:20.270
  • family to Europe for a vacation, for a time of
  • 00:22:21.010 --> 00:22:23.250
  • ministry and relaxation with his friend, D.L. Moody. But
  • 00:22:23.290 --> 00:22:27.260
  • when some last-minute business detained him, he sent his wife
  • 00:22:28.000 --> 00:22:30.060
  • and his four children ahead, planning to meet up with them
  • 00:22:30.100 --> 00:22:32.200
  • later in Europe. But at approximately 2:00 in the
  • 00:22:32.240 --> 00:22:35.140
  • morning, November 22, 1873, while crossing the Atlantic
  • 00:22:35.180 --> 00:22:41.020
  • Ocean, the water I'm on right now, Anna and the other
  • 00:22:41.060 --> 00:22:44.080
  • passengers were suddenly awakened by what sounded like
  • 00:22:44.120 --> 00:22:46.270
  • two loud claps of thunder. The passengers suddenly discovered
  • 00:22:47.010 --> 00:22:52.010
  • that they had actually been hit by another large boat and
  • 00:22:52.050 --> 00:22:54.230
  • their ship was sinking. Frantically, Anna grabbed
  • 00:22:54.270 --> 00:22:57.170
  • their youngest daughter, two-year-old, Tanetta, and
  • 00:22:57.210 --> 00:23:00.020
  • tried to escape. But the baby was violently torn from her
  • 00:23:00.060 --> 00:23:02.290
  • arms by a collision with some heavy debris. Anna tried
  • 00:23:03.030 --> 00:23:06.170
  • desperately to catch her baby and caught Tanetta's gown for
  • 00:23:06.210 --> 00:23:09.140
  • just a moment before another blow tore the little girl out
  • 00:23:09.180 --> 00:23:12.140
  • of her arms forever. It's also said that Anna witnessed all
  • 00:23:12.180 --> 00:23:18.000
  • three of her other daughters being torn from her and taken by the cold sea one by one.
  • 00:23:18.040 --> 00:23:23.220
  • (Music)
  • 00:23:23.260 --> 00:23:30.100
  • Two hundred twenty-six people lost their lives that night as
  • 00:23:30.140 --> 00:23:33.100
  • the ship sank in just 12 minutes. Anna was later found
  • 00:23:33.140 --> 00:23:36.180
  • floating unconscious on a plank of wood. She was alone.
  • 00:23:36.220 --> 00:23:41.050
  • Here's where these documents come into play. Because you
  • 00:23:41.090 --> 00:23:43.180
  • see, after arriving in Wales nine days later, Anna sent her
  • 00:23:43.220 --> 00:23:46.280
  • husband, Horatio, a telegram. This is a copy of that very
  • 00:23:47.020 --> 00:23:50.240
  • heartbreaking, handwritten telegram right here. And this
  • 00:23:50.280 --> 00:23:54.090
  • is what it says: Saved alone. What shall I do? Completely
  • 00:23:54.130 --> 00:24:00.150
  • devastated, Horatio immediately left Chicago to
  • 00:24:00.190 --> 00:24:03.120
  • bring his wife home. While crossing the Atlantic, the
  • 00:24:03.160 --> 00:24:06.210
  • captain called Horatio to his cabin and said, I believe that
  • 00:24:06.250 --> 00:24:10.030
  • the place we're passing over now is where the ship went
  • 00:24:10.070 --> 00:24:12.280
  • down. The water here is three miles deep. Later Horatio
  • 00:24:13.020 --> 00:24:17.100
  • wrote these words to his wife's sister: On Thursday
  • 00:24:17.140 --> 00:24:20.120
  • last, he said, we passed over the spot where she went down
  • 00:24:20.160 --> 00:24:23.030
  • in mid-ocean, the water three miles deep. But I do not think
  • 00:24:23.070 --> 00:24:27.210
  • of our dear ones there. They are safe, folded, the dear
  • 00:24:27.250 --> 00:24:32.040
  • lambs, and there, before long, shall we be too. In the
  • 00:24:32.080 --> 00:24:34.290
  • meantime, thanks to God we have an opportunity to serve
  • 00:24:35.030 --> 00:24:38.130
  • and praise Him for His love and mercy to us and ours. I
  • 00:24:38.170 --> 00:24:42.190
  • will praise Him while I have my being. May we each arise,
  • 00:24:42.230 --> 00:24:46.070
  • leave all, and follow Him. This last replica is perhaps
  • 00:24:46.110 --> 00:24:50.250
  • the most interesting. It's a piece of stationary that
  • 00:24:50.290 --> 00:24:54.160
  • looks like it was taken from a hotel in Chicago.
  • 00:24:54.200 --> 00:24:57.190
  • But if you look carefully, you might find some of the words
  • 00:24:57.230 --> 00:25:00.020
  • familiar. That's because today, they are part of church
  • 00:25:00.060 --> 00:25:03.190
  • history. You see, as Horatio was passing over the watery
  • 00:25:03.230 --> 00:25:06.170
  • grave of his four children, he went back to his cabin and he
  • 00:25:06.210 --> 00:25:10.050
  • wrote this. It's a song that today is one of the most beloved
  • 00:25:10.090 --> 00:25:14.080
  • hymns of all time. Let me read some of the words to you. (Piano music in background)
  • 00:25:14.120 --> 00:25:19.140
  • When peace like a river atttendeth my way
  • 00:25:19.180 --> 00:25:22.200
  • When sorrows like sea billows roll
  • 00:25:22.240 --> 00:25:25.190
  • What ever my lot thou hast taught me to say
  • 00:25:25.230 --> 00:25:29.050
  • It is well, it is well with my soul.
  • 00:25:29.090 --> 00:25:33.100
  • (Piano music)
  • 00:25:33.140 --> 00:25:48.060

  • with my soul.
