  • you're facing, Jesus is in your boat
  • 00:00:03.040 --> 00:00:06.010
  • and he will take care of you.
  • 00:00:06.010 --> 00:00:08.040
  • (upbeat music)
  • 00:00:08.040 --> 00:00:10.190
  • Hi, I'm Father Cedric,
  • 00:00:35.120 --> 00:00:36.150
  • the host of Live with Passion.
  • 00:00:36.150 --> 00:00:37.220
  • I'm so glad that you tuned into the program.
  • 00:00:37.220 --> 00:00:40.100
  • I want to share with you one of my favorite stories.
  • 00:00:40.100 --> 00:00:43.000
  • It's about Jesus one time is going
  • 00:00:43.000 --> 00:00:44.240
  • across the Sea of Galilee and a big storm came.
  • 00:00:44.240 --> 00:00:48.010
  • Let me share it with you.
  • 00:00:48.010 --> 00:00:49.190
  • One day when evening had come he said,
  • 00:00:49.190 --> 00:00:51.160
  • "Let's go across to the other side."
  • 00:00:51.160 --> 00:00:54.200
  • And leaving the crowd, they took him
  • 00:00:54.200 --> 00:00:57.100
  • in the boat, just as he was.
  • 00:00:57.100 --> 00:00:59.030
  • There were other boats too.
  • 00:00:59.030 --> 00:01:01.080
  • And a great storm of wind occurred.
  • 00:01:01.080 --> 00:01:04.110
  • The waves beat into the boat.
  • 00:01:04.110 --> 00:01:06.200
  • The boat was already filling.
  • 00:01:06.200 --> 00:01:08.260
  • But Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion.
  • 00:01:08.260 --> 00:01:12.040
  • They woke him up and they said,
  • 00:01:12.040 --> 00:01:13.040
  • "Teacher, don't you care?
  • 00:01:13.040 --> 00:01:15.030
  • "Don't you care if we perish?"
  • 00:01:15.030 --> 00:01:17.190
  • And he awoke, rebuked the wind,
  • 00:01:17.190 --> 00:01:20.030
  • and he said to the sea, "Peace!
  • 00:01:20.030 --> 00:01:22.030
  • "Be still!"
  • 00:01:22.030 --> 00:01:23.030
  • And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
  • 00:01:24.090 --> 00:01:26.130
  • And he said to them, "Why are you afraid?
  • 00:01:27.190 --> 00:01:29.130
  • "Have you no faith?"
  • 00:01:29.130 --> 00:01:30.230
  • And they were filled with fear,
  • 00:01:31.240 --> 00:01:33.100
  • and they said to one another,
  • 00:01:33.100 --> 00:01:34.120
  • "Who then is this,
  • 00:01:34.120 --> 00:01:36.150
  • "that even the wind and the sea obey him?"
  • 00:01:36.150 --> 00:01:39.000
  • So let's go across to the other side.
  • 00:01:42.020 --> 00:01:44.040
  • Of course we're talking about the other side
  • 00:01:45.090 --> 00:01:46.250
  • of the Sea of Galilee.
  • 00:01:46.250 --> 00:01:48.280
  • But with Jesus, he wants to take us
  • 00:01:48.280 --> 00:01:51.260
  • to the other side of our life.
  • 00:01:51.260 --> 00:01:54.190
  • And eventually he wants to take us
  • 00:01:54.190 --> 00:01:56.220
  • to the other side of death itself.
  • 00:01:56.220 --> 00:02:00.080
  • So come on, let's go on a journey.
  • 00:02:00.080 --> 00:02:02.110
  • Actually, you know, some people say
  • 00:02:02.110 --> 00:02:03.210
  • that discipleship is a journey
  • 00:02:03.210 --> 00:02:06.160
  • and I agree with that.
  • 00:02:06.160 --> 00:02:08.010
  • We journey with Jesus from one place to another
  • 00:02:08.010 --> 00:02:11.160
  • and that's kind of a cultural theme,
  • 00:02:11.160 --> 00:02:14.020
  • that of the journey.
  • 00:02:14.020 --> 00:02:15.220
  • But more than a journey I want
  • 00:02:15.220 --> 00:02:17.170
  • to talk about discipleship as a pilgrimage.
  • 00:02:17.170 --> 00:02:21.110
  • And there's a difference.
  • 00:02:21.110 --> 00:02:22.090
  • Because a journey is traveling
  • 00:02:22.090 --> 00:02:24.180
  • but a pilgrimage is traveling with faith.
  • 00:02:24.180 --> 00:02:28.220
  • And that's exactly what a pilgrimage is.
  • 00:02:28.220 --> 00:02:30.200
  • I've made some pilgrimages in my life.
  • 00:02:30.200 --> 00:02:33.090
  • For example, one time I took a group of people
  • 00:02:33.090 --> 00:02:36.090
  • to Israel, Greece and Rome,
  • 00:02:36.090 --> 00:02:38.230
  • and that was a two-week pilgrimage.
  • 00:02:38.230 --> 00:02:42.230
  • And it was a fascinating pilgrimage,
  • 00:02:42.230 --> 00:02:44.280
  • but it involved some suffering.
  • 00:02:44.280 --> 00:02:46.220
  • A lot of travel, a lot of airports,
  • 00:02:46.220 --> 00:02:50.280
  • a lot of transferring the baggage,
  • 00:02:50.280 --> 00:02:52.240
  • you know, that whole thing.
  • 00:02:52.240 --> 00:02:54.130
  • And then one time I remember I made
  • 00:02:54.130 --> 00:02:55.250
  • a pilgrimage to World Youth Day,
  • 00:02:55.250 --> 00:02:59.240
  • and that was in Denver, Colorado.
  • 00:02:59.240 --> 00:03:02.120
  • That was back in 1993.
  • 00:03:02.120 --> 00:03:04.070
  • A couple of years after I was ordained a priest.
  • 00:03:04.070 --> 00:03:06.290
  • There was like a million people there.
  • 00:03:06.290 --> 00:03:09.150
  • Not quite a million but it was huge.
  • 00:03:09.150 --> 00:03:11.250
  • They had this outdoor mass
  • 00:03:11.250 --> 00:03:13.190
  • at Cherry Creek State Park,
  • 00:03:13.190 --> 00:03:16.140
  • and the interesting thing was,
  • 00:03:16.140 --> 00:03:18.130
  • I remember how hot it was.
  • 00:03:18.130 --> 00:03:20.070
  • It must have been a hundred degrees.
  • 00:03:21.130 --> 00:03:23.000
  • People were sweating.
  • 00:03:23.000 --> 00:03:24.100
  • The neighbors were putting out water.
  • 00:03:25.160 --> 00:03:26.230
  • There were people everywhere.
  • 00:03:26.230 --> 00:03:28.000
  • And I remember there was only a few bathrooms.
  • 00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:30.270
  • They put out these Porta Potties
  • 00:03:30.270 --> 00:03:32.150
  • and long lines to the bathrooms.
  • 00:03:32.150 --> 00:03:34.210
  • And I thought to myself,
  • 00:03:34.210 --> 00:03:35.190
  • you know what, this is perfect
  • 00:03:35.190 --> 00:03:37.170
  • because this is what a pilgrimage is.
  • 00:03:37.170 --> 00:03:39.200
  • A pilgrimage is a facsimile of life itself.
  • 00:03:39.200 --> 00:03:44.170
  • So, life itself has seasons of suffering,
  • 00:03:44.170 --> 00:03:49.040
  • of affliction, of hardships.
  • 00:03:49.040 --> 00:03:52.070
  • So, shouldn't it be this was in a pilgrimage too?
  • 00:03:52.070 --> 00:03:54.070
  • It's hot, long lines at the bathroom,
  • 00:03:54.070 --> 00:03:57.060
  • people everywhere.
  • 00:03:57.060 --> 00:03:59.000
  • And pilgrimages demand patience.
  • 00:03:59.000 --> 00:04:02.090
  • They demand endurance.
  • 00:04:02.090 --> 00:04:04.240
  • They demand forgiveness.
  • 00:04:04.240 --> 00:04:07.000
  • And it's the same with life.
  • 00:04:07.000 --> 00:04:09.040
  • So when Jesus takes us on this journey,
  • 00:04:09.040 --> 00:04:11.230
  • it's more than a journey,
  • 00:04:12.240 --> 00:04:14.280
  • it's a pilgrimage.
  • 00:04:14.280 --> 00:04:16.220
  • It's a journey of faith.
  • 00:04:16.220 --> 00:04:19.030
  • And in this journey of faith
  • 00:04:19.030 --> 00:04:20.100
  • we are gonna meet up with tribulations
  • 00:04:20.100 --> 00:04:23.010
  • and hardships and afflictions
  • 00:04:23.010 --> 00:04:25.160
  • and sufferings and difficulties.
  • 00:04:25.160 --> 00:04:27.290
  • I call them the seasons of life.
  • 00:04:27.290 --> 00:04:30.210
  • I wrote a book called Seasons of Life
  • 00:04:30.210 --> 00:04:32.230
  • where we go through various seasons.
  • 00:04:32.230 --> 00:04:36.050
  • Sometimes there's a season of grieving,
  • 00:04:36.050 --> 00:04:39.130
  • like the time I lost my dad,
  • 00:04:39.130 --> 00:04:42.030
  • and then I lost my mom.
  • 00:04:42.030 --> 00:04:44.040
  • Those were two very difficult seasons for me.
  • 00:04:44.040 --> 00:04:47.280
  • But those seasons passed.
  • 00:04:47.280 --> 00:04:49.200
  • I still grieve but the grieving
  • 00:04:50.190 --> 00:04:52.080
  • is not that bad anymore.
  • 00:04:52.080 --> 00:04:53.190
  • And then there was a season of sickness for me
  • 00:04:55.000 --> 00:04:56.230
  • when I had to have a knee operation
  • 00:04:56.230 --> 00:04:59.100
  • and that was really hard.
  • 00:04:59.100 --> 00:05:00.150
  • But that season has passed
  • 00:05:00.150 --> 00:05:01.280
  • because I've gotten better after the operation.
  • 00:05:01.280 --> 00:05:05.000
  • And then there were seasons in the church itself.
  • 00:05:05.000 --> 00:05:07.270
  • For example, season of difficulty with vocations,
  • 00:05:07.270 --> 00:05:12.250
  • season of the sexual scandal,
  • 00:05:13.210 --> 00:05:17.040
  • seasons of hardships with leadership at times.
  • 00:05:17.040 --> 00:05:21.000
  • So, there's been different seasons
  • 00:05:21.000 --> 00:05:22.210
  • that have gone through the church.
  • 00:05:22.210 --> 00:05:24.070
  • You know, there's been difficulties
  • 00:05:24.070 --> 00:05:26.180
  • with controversies and all kinds of things
  • 00:05:26.180 --> 00:05:31.010
  • that have happened in the church.
  • 00:05:31.010 --> 00:05:32.270
  • So, when Jesus said let's go to the other side,
  • 00:05:32.270 --> 00:05:35.100
  • what he's doing is, he's taking us
  • 00:05:35.100 --> 00:05:36.260
  • from where we are and where we were,
  • 00:05:36.260 --> 00:05:39.150
  • and he's taking us to another place.
  • 00:05:39.150 --> 00:05:42.080
  • And the beautiful thing about Jesus
  • 00:05:42.080 --> 00:05:44.150
  • and discipleship is, he said let's go.
  • 00:05:44.150 --> 00:05:48.150
  • In other words, he's saying,
  • 00:05:48.150 --> 00:05:49.280
  • I'm not telling you to go alone,
  • 00:05:49.280 --> 00:05:52.100
  • I want you to come with me, come follow me.
  • 00:05:52.100 --> 00:05:55.150
  • And that's exactly what discipleship is.
  • 00:05:55.150 --> 00:05:58.080
  • It's a journey of faith
  • 00:05:58.080 --> 00:06:01.170
  • following Jesus.
  • 00:06:02.160 --> 00:06:04.290
  • Because we follow Jesus that doesn't exempt us
  • 00:06:06.150 --> 00:06:09.050
  • from hardship, as I said.
  • 00:06:09.050 --> 00:06:11.220
  • But because Jesus is with us
  • 00:06:11.220 --> 00:06:14.170
  • we can face the hardships, the storms,
  • 00:06:14.170 --> 00:06:17.030
  • the difficulties, and we can go through,
  • 00:06:17.030 --> 00:06:20.100
  • and we can grow through.
  • 00:06:20.100 --> 00:06:22.160
  • As we go through we grow through.
  • 00:06:22.160 --> 00:06:25.170
  • So when Jesus said let's go,
  • 00:06:25.170 --> 00:06:27.150
  • he's saying I will be with you.
  • 00:06:27.150 --> 00:06:29.190
  • And he says that over and over again
  • 00:06:30.230 --> 00:06:32.090
  • in the gospel, of course we know that.
  • 00:06:32.090 --> 00:06:34.060
  • To be with means to be close.
  • 00:06:35.040 --> 00:06:38.130
  • To be alongside of.
  • 00:06:38.130 --> 00:06:40.100
  • And we can lean on Jesus.
  • 00:06:40.100 --> 00:06:42.170
  • He cares for us.
  • 00:06:42.170 --> 00:06:44.150
  • In fact, that's what the scripture says.
  • 00:06:44.150 --> 00:06:45.240
  • It says cast your care on God
  • 00:06:45.240 --> 00:06:49.140
  • because God cares for you.
  • 00:06:49.140 --> 00:06:52.000
  • And because God cares for us
  • 00:06:52.000 --> 00:06:54.010
  • He will take care of us.
  • 00:06:54.010 --> 00:06:55.290
  • Sometimes it doesn't seem like God is there.
  • 00:06:55.290 --> 00:06:58.010
  • It seems like Jesus is asleep
  • 00:06:58.010 --> 00:06:59.280
  • in the back of a boat.
  • 00:06:59.280 --> 00:07:01.210
  • But the bottom line is,
  • 00:07:01.210 --> 00:07:02.290
  • is that he is in the boat with us
  • 00:07:02.290 --> 00:07:06.020
  • as we make this pilgrimage of faith,
  • 00:07:06.020 --> 00:07:08.290
  • and so he really does care
  • 00:07:08.290 --> 00:07:10.280
  • and he really is there.
  • 00:07:10.280 --> 00:07:12.250
  • So I want you to understand that.
  • 00:07:12.250 --> 00:07:15.010
  • So, we've all heard about that.
  • 00:07:15.010 --> 00:07:18.100
  • Poetry if you will, that story about footprints.
  • 00:07:18.100 --> 00:07:21.280
  • Remember the man has a dream
  • 00:07:21.280 --> 00:07:23.110
  • and in his dream he sees
  • 00:07:23.110 --> 00:07:25.080
  • these two sets of footprints
  • 00:07:25.080 --> 00:07:27.210
  • along the coast.
  • 00:07:27.210 --> 00:07:29.120
  • And then all of a sudden he starts going
  • 00:07:29.120 --> 00:07:30.190
  • through hard times and difficulties
  • 00:07:30.190 --> 00:07:32.070
  • and problems and storms.
  • 00:07:32.070 --> 00:07:33.260
  • And he only sees one set of footprints.
  • 00:07:33.260 --> 00:07:36.230
  • So he says to the Lord in the dream,
  • 00:07:36.230 --> 00:07:38.070
  • he says, "I don't understand that dream."
  • 00:07:38.070 --> 00:07:40.010
  • He said, "I was having good times
  • 00:07:40.010 --> 00:07:42.130
  • "and you were walking with me.
  • 00:07:42.130 --> 00:07:43.240
  • "Then I went through difficulties and you left me."
  • 00:07:43.240 --> 00:07:46.240
  • And the Lord said to him,
  • 00:07:46.240 --> 00:07:47.280
  • "You misinterpreted the dream
  • 00:07:47.280 --> 00:07:50.070
  • "because that one set of footprints was mine.
  • 00:07:50.070 --> 00:07:54.250
  • "When you were going through hard times,
  • 00:07:54.250 --> 00:07:56.270
  • "it was I who carried you."
  • 00:07:58.060 --> 00:07:59.290
  • And that is so good because
  • 00:08:02.010 --> 00:08:04.070
  • even though we walk through the valley
  • 00:08:04.070 --> 00:08:05.230
  • of the shadow of death we fear no evil
  • 00:08:05.230 --> 00:08:08.180
  • because our shepherd is with us,
  • 00:08:08.180 --> 00:08:12.000
  • to strengthen us, to help us
  • 00:08:12.000 --> 00:08:13.230
  • and to bring us through.
  • 00:08:13.230 --> 00:08:15.180
  • So, let's take this pilgrimage to the other side
  • 00:08:15.180 --> 00:08:19.110
  • and eventually, just to let you know,
  • 00:08:19.110 --> 00:08:21.130
  • as I said before, he is gonna take us
  • 00:08:21.130 --> 00:08:23.220
  • to the other side of death itself.
  • 00:08:23.220 --> 00:08:26.160
  • We go with him now in life
  • 00:08:26.160 --> 00:08:27.270
  • through the seasons of life,
  • 00:08:27.270 --> 00:08:29.190
  • we progress to our own death
  • 00:08:29.190 --> 00:08:31.130
  • and then eventually, he's gonna take us
  • 00:08:31.130 --> 00:08:32.230
  • to the other side, to eternity itself.
  • 00:08:32.230 --> 00:08:36.140
  • So it's important now that we develop
  • 00:08:36.140 --> 00:08:38.120
  • our relationship with Jesus here
  • 00:08:38.120 --> 00:08:40.290
  • so that when we face that ultimate storm,
  • 00:08:40.290 --> 00:08:43.230
  • he'll take us through that too,
  • 00:08:43.230 --> 00:08:45.270
  • on a pilgrimage to eternity.
  • 00:08:45.270 --> 00:08:48.000
  • So, they're going across,
  • 00:08:48.000 --> 00:08:51.050
  • everything's great.
  • 00:08:52.080 --> 00:08:53.280
  • And isn't life like that?
  • 00:08:53.280 --> 00:08:55.230
  • Most of the time things are pretty good.
  • 00:08:55.230 --> 00:08:58.250
  • We're raising families
  • 00:08:58.250 --> 00:09:00.080
  • and things are going well
  • 00:09:00.080 --> 00:09:02.120
  • and not really suffering
  • 00:09:02.120 --> 00:09:04.110
  • and the money is coming in
  • 00:09:04.110 --> 00:09:05.200
  • and not really any hardships.
  • 00:09:05.200 --> 00:09:07.230
  • And then the scripture says
  • 00:09:07.230 --> 00:09:08.250
  • all of a sudden things change.
  • 00:09:08.250 --> 00:09:12.170
  • It's kind of like the weather channel.
  • 00:09:12.170 --> 00:09:14.150
  • We didn't see this coming
  • 00:09:14.150 --> 00:09:15.220
  • but all of a sudden the storm blew in.
  • 00:09:15.220 --> 00:09:17.130
  • And a great storm of wind occurred.
  • 00:09:18.190 --> 00:09:21.140
  • It was a tempest, like a hurricane.
  • 00:09:21.140 --> 00:09:25.160
  • They're going across the Sea of Galilee
  • 00:09:25.160 --> 00:09:27.170
  • and then, boom, it hit and it hit with fury.
  • 00:09:27.170 --> 00:09:30.270
  • Back in my seminary days, back in 1987,
  • 00:09:32.030 --> 00:09:35.180
  • I had the privilege to study
  • 00:09:35.180 --> 00:09:37.030
  • in the land of Israel.
  • 00:09:37.030 --> 00:09:38.100
  • I spent three months over there,
  • 00:09:38.100 --> 00:09:40.240
  • lived in Galilee for a while.
  • 00:09:40.240 --> 00:09:42.280
  • Most of the time I lived in Jerusalem.
  • 00:09:42.280 --> 00:09:45.200
  • They call the gospels,
  • 00:09:45.200 --> 00:09:47.100
  • you know, the four gospels,
  • 00:09:47.100 --> 00:09:48.190
  • they call the land of Israel the Holy Land.
  • 00:09:48.190 --> 00:09:51.270
  • They call it the fifth gospel.
  • 00:09:51.270 --> 00:09:54.080
  • And I really like that because
  • 00:09:54.080 --> 00:09:56.100
  • it gives meaning to the other gospels.
  • 00:09:56.100 --> 00:09:58.170
  • For example, when I went to Galilee,
  • 00:09:58.170 --> 00:10:00.130
  • I got a sense of Jesus there,
  • 00:10:01.220 --> 00:10:04.080
  • what he was like.
  • 00:10:04.080 --> 00:10:05.290
  • There's not a whole lot of people
  • 00:10:05.290 --> 00:10:07.080
  • in Galilee anymore, it's not very crowded,
  • 00:10:07.080 --> 00:10:09.290
  • it's not like Jerusalem.
  • 00:10:09.290 --> 00:10:11.220
  • And in Galilee you just get a sense of Jesus
  • 00:10:11.220 --> 00:10:16.020
  • and it colors the gospels that you read.
  • 00:10:16.020 --> 00:10:19.130
  • So, it was such an honor and a privilege
  • 00:10:19.130 --> 00:10:21.020
  • and I remember one of my favorite places
  • 00:10:21.020 --> 00:10:23.130
  • was going to the Sea of Galilee.
  • 00:10:23.130 --> 00:10:25.120
  • The Sea of Galilee isn't a sea like we know oceans,
  • 00:10:25.120 --> 00:10:30.080
  • it's more like a lake.
  • 00:10:30.080 --> 00:10:31.160
  • They also call it the Lake of Gennesaret.
  • 00:10:31.160 --> 00:10:34.220
  • Gennesaret is a word, by the way, that means harp,
  • 00:10:34.220 --> 00:10:37.070
  • like a musical harp that you play,
  • 00:10:37.070 --> 00:10:39.260
  • because the Sea of Galilee is shaped like a harp.
  • 00:10:39.260 --> 00:10:43.040
  • And it's really not a large body of water.
  • 00:10:43.040 --> 00:10:47.080
  • If you know anything about Lake Tahoe
  • 00:10:47.080 --> 00:10:48.280
  • up in California, very similar to Lake Tahoe.
  • 00:10:48.280 --> 00:10:52.200
  • It's a lake, Lake Gennesaret,
  • 00:10:52.200 --> 00:10:54.250
  • and the interesting thing though is,
  • 00:10:56.000 --> 00:10:58.040
  • Lake Tahoe is up about 6200 feet in altitude,
  • 00:10:58.040 --> 00:11:02.090
  • but the Sea of Galilee
  • 00:11:02.090 --> 00:11:03.120
  • is 680 feet below sea level.
  • 00:11:03.120 --> 00:11:07.200
  • It's about 13 miles long,
  • 00:11:07.200 --> 00:11:09.280
  • about eight miles across, not very big.
  • 00:11:09.280 --> 00:11:12.060
  • But big enough.
  • 00:11:12.060 --> 00:11:13.120
  • And what happens is,
  • 00:11:13.120 --> 00:11:14.100
  • because it's below sea level,
  • 00:11:14.100 --> 00:11:16.080
  • in the Golan Heights, there's a notch there.
  • 00:11:16.080 --> 00:11:18.220
  • The storms get kicked up off of Syria
  • 00:11:18.220 --> 00:11:23.090
  • and they come blowing through that notch
  • 00:11:23.090 --> 00:11:25.160
  • and they get sucked right down
  • 00:11:25.160 --> 00:11:26.290
  • onto the Sea of Galilee.
  • 00:11:26.290 --> 00:11:28.220
  • You just happen to be going
  • 00:11:28.220 --> 00:11:30.000
  • across the Sea of Galilee in a boat.
  • 00:11:30.000 --> 00:11:31.140
  • All of a sudden you can perish.
  • 00:11:32.140 --> 00:11:34.090
  • That's exactly what I was doing one time.
  • 00:11:35.140 --> 00:11:36.260
  • I was crossing the Sea of Galilee
  • 00:11:36.260 --> 00:11:38.210
  • and I was in a boat with a captain.
  • 00:11:38.210 --> 00:11:41.140
  • There was a couple other people on board
  • 00:11:41.140 --> 00:11:43.070
  • while I was studying there.
  • 00:11:43.070 --> 00:11:45.120
  • And I went over to the captain and I said,
  • 00:11:45.120 --> 00:11:47.030
  • "You know what, I've studied the Bible
  • 00:11:47.030 --> 00:11:48.210
  • "and heard all about these storms
  • 00:11:48.210 --> 00:11:50.080
  • "in the Sea of Galilee.
  • 00:11:50.080 --> 00:11:51.240
  • "Is that really true?
  • 00:11:51.240 --> 00:11:53.120
  • "I mean do these storms really come?"
  • 00:11:53.120 --> 00:11:55.070
  • And the captain kind of looked at me
  • 00:11:55.070 --> 00:11:56.280
  • with a shocked expression and he said,
  • 00:11:56.280 --> 00:11:59.040
  • "Yes, it is true.
  • 00:11:59.040 --> 00:12:00.220
  • "I've heard of people
  • 00:12:00.220 --> 00:12:01.290
  • "that have died from these storms."
  • 00:12:01.290 --> 00:12:03.140
  • If you're out in a boat,
  • 00:12:04.250 --> 00:12:05.280
  • you just happen to be fishing,
  • 00:12:05.280 --> 00:12:07.260
  • it's very dangerous.
  • 00:12:07.260 --> 00:12:09.040
  • In fact, he even said there's a name for them.
  • 00:12:09.040 --> 00:12:11.170
  • He says they call them,
  • 00:12:11.170 --> 00:12:12.280
  • the storms that hit the Sea of Galilee,
  • 00:12:12.280 --> 00:12:14.260
  • they call them shark ears.
  • 00:12:14.260 --> 00:12:16.050
  • And he said they're ferocious and they're deadly
  • 00:12:17.150 --> 00:12:19.060
  • and they come out of nowhere.
  • 00:12:19.060 --> 00:12:20.190
  • Storms are a metaphor for real life.
  • 00:12:22.130 --> 00:12:26.150
  • We hear about storms in the Bible.
  • 00:12:27.180 --> 00:12:29.160
  • Think about losing a family member,
  • 00:12:29.160 --> 00:12:33.030
  • going through a physical suffering,
  • 00:12:33.030 --> 00:12:35.130
  • unemployment, dealing with an addiction,
  • 00:12:35.130 --> 00:12:39.020
  • relationship problems,
  • 00:12:39.020 --> 00:12:41.050
  • things not going your way, broken dreams.
  • 00:12:41.050 --> 00:12:44.280
  • Yeah, it's real life.
  • 00:12:44.280 --> 00:12:46.070
  • And this has happened in the life of Jesus
  • 00:12:46.070 --> 00:12:48.140
  • and the disciples, happens in our life too.
  • 00:12:48.140 --> 00:12:50.050
  • We're all very familiar with storms.
  • 00:12:50.050 --> 00:12:52.220
  • I remember back in 2017,
  • 00:12:52.220 --> 00:12:57.170
  • Hurricane Harvey hit Houston.
  • 00:12:57.170 --> 00:13:00.190
  • That's where I live in, Houston.
  • 00:13:00.190 --> 00:13:01.270
  • We have our retreat center there.
  • 00:13:01.270 --> 00:13:03.210
  • Some 54 inches of rain fell in one place
  • 00:13:03.210 --> 00:13:07.240
  • and it flooded the size
  • 00:13:07.240 --> 00:13:09.280
  • of the State of New Jersey with water.
  • 00:13:09.280 --> 00:13:12.270
  • It was a cat four hurricane
  • 00:13:12.270 --> 00:13:15.020
  • and our retreat center in Houston,
  • 00:13:15.020 --> 00:13:17.190
  • thanks be to God, has good drainage.
  • 00:13:17.190 --> 00:13:21.140
  • That neighborhood that we live in,
  • 00:13:21.140 --> 00:13:23.040
  • they have all kinds of good infrastructure there,
  • 00:13:23.040 --> 00:13:25.170
  • and we did well, although there was a lot of rain
  • 00:13:25.170 --> 00:13:28.230
  • and there was a lot of flooding in our area.
  • 00:13:28.230 --> 00:13:32.000
  • It was the people near the bayous, the rivers,
  • 00:13:32.000 --> 00:13:34.250
  • that really got hit hard.
  • 00:13:34.250 --> 00:13:36.100
  • We have five miles from us
  • 00:13:37.100 --> 00:13:39.080
  • a group of sisters, Catholic nuns,
  • 00:13:39.080 --> 00:13:41.240
  • called the Cenacle Sisters.
  • 00:13:41.240 --> 00:13:44.050
  • They live right next to a bayou.
  • 00:13:44.050 --> 00:13:45.200
  • Their retreat center was totally flooded out
  • 00:13:45.200 --> 00:13:47.230
  • and they lost everything.
  • 00:13:47.230 --> 00:13:49.140
  • Millions of dollars worth of damage.
  • 00:13:49.140 --> 00:13:51.090
  • So storms hit good people,
  • 00:13:52.250 --> 00:13:55.260
  • bad people, all people.
  • 00:13:55.260 --> 00:13:58.060
  • God sunshines on the just and the unjust,
  • 00:13:59.120 --> 00:14:03.190
  • as Jesus taught, comes to everybody.
  • 00:14:03.190 --> 00:14:06.070
  • God's love, storms, hardships.
  • 00:14:06.070 --> 00:14:10.080
  • We're all human, we all have to deal with it.
  • 00:14:10.080 --> 00:14:13.050
  • Cardinal DiNardo, and he was interviewed
  • 00:14:13.050 --> 00:14:15.060
  • by the media and they asked him,
  • 00:14:15.060 --> 00:14:18.120
  • "Where was God in this Hurricane Harvey?
  • 00:14:18.120 --> 00:14:20.170
  • "Where was God in all this?"
  • 00:14:20.170 --> 00:14:22.110
  • And he replied in an interesting manner.
  • 00:14:22.110 --> 00:14:24.070
  • He said, "God didn't cause the hurricane
  • 00:14:24.070 --> 00:14:27.230
  • "but God redeemed the hurricane.
  • 00:14:27.230 --> 00:14:30.050
  • "We found God in the people who donated,
  • 00:14:30.050 --> 00:14:33.110
  • "the Cajun Navy, the first responders,
  • 00:14:33.110 --> 00:14:36.220
  • "those who help the firemen and the policemen.
  • 00:14:36.220 --> 00:14:39.210
  • "All the people that help."
  • 00:14:39.210 --> 00:14:40.290
  • God redeemed us through the people that helped.
  • 00:14:40.290 --> 00:14:45.280
  • And that's the way it is with storms in life.
  • 00:14:47.030 --> 00:14:49.030
  • There's always redemption.
  • 00:14:49.030 --> 00:14:50.270
  • God doesn't exempt us from these things
  • 00:14:50.270 --> 00:14:54.010
  • but God promises to be with us
  • 00:14:54.010 --> 00:14:56.060
  • in the hurricanes, in the storms.
  • 00:14:56.060 --> 00:14:58.280
  • So, storms come and they go
  • 00:14:58.280 --> 00:15:02.060
  • and they take all kinds of different forms.
  • 00:15:02.060 --> 00:15:04.110
  • That's why I like this story
  • 00:15:04.110 --> 00:15:05.180
  • because to me it speaks about real life.
  • 00:15:05.180 --> 00:15:08.240
  • And real life doesn't deny the storms.
  • 00:15:08.240 --> 00:15:11.220
  • Real life faces the storms.
  • 00:15:11.220 --> 00:15:14.210
  • And you're not intimidated by storms.
  • 00:15:14.210 --> 00:15:17.050
  • When they come you are strong
  • 00:15:17.050 --> 00:15:18.260
  • because remember, Jesus is with us
  • 00:15:18.260 --> 00:15:21.260
  • in the boat and he cares for us.
  • 00:15:21.260 --> 00:15:24.180
  • So, the story says, as we go along,
  • 00:15:24.180 --> 00:15:27.250
  • that the waves beat into the boat
  • 00:15:27.250 --> 00:15:30.050
  • so that the boat was filling with water.
  • 00:15:30.050 --> 00:15:33.080
  • And I think about that because it seems like
  • 00:15:33.080 --> 00:15:37.100
  • when you have one problem
  • 00:15:37.100 --> 00:15:39.130
  • all of a sudden many problems come.
  • 00:15:39.130 --> 00:15:42.210
  • You've all heard that expression.
  • 00:15:42.210 --> 00:15:45.090
  • When it rains it pours.
  • 00:15:45.090 --> 00:15:47.090
  • Sometimes when you're going
  • 00:15:47.090 --> 00:15:48.070
  • through a relationship problem,
  • 00:15:48.070 --> 00:15:49.150
  • you have money problems and health problems,
  • 00:15:49.150 --> 00:15:51.210
  • and addictions, and this and that.
  • 00:15:51.210 --> 00:15:53.210
  • All these other things come at the same time.
  • 00:15:53.210 --> 00:15:56.000
  • And so the waves were beating into the boat,
  • 00:15:56.000 --> 00:15:58.180
  • and maybe that's happening in your life right now.
  • 00:15:58.180 --> 00:16:01.060
  • You could have a lot of things going against you.
  • 00:16:01.060 --> 00:16:04.170
  • But I want you to know that the Lord's on board,
  • 00:16:04.170 --> 00:16:07.170
  • you're not alone, you're on a pilgrimage.
  • 00:16:07.170 --> 00:16:10.090
  • These are seasons that will pass.
  • 00:16:10.090 --> 00:16:12.290
  • One of my favorite sayings is,
  • 00:16:12.290 --> 00:16:14.120
  • this too shall pass.
  • 00:16:14.120 --> 00:16:16.140
  • So the waves were beating into the boat.
  • 00:16:16.140 --> 00:16:18.140
  • When I studied in Israel,
  • 00:16:18.140 --> 00:16:20.220
  • when I went to the Sea of Galilee,
  • 00:16:20.220 --> 00:16:22.230
  • on the west side of the Sea of Galilee
  • 00:16:22.230 --> 00:16:24.140
  • there's a place called Magdala.
  • 00:16:24.140 --> 00:16:27.050
  • You've heard of Mary Magdalene,
  • 00:16:27.050 --> 00:16:28.150
  • that's where she was from from, Magdala.
  • 00:16:28.150 --> 00:16:30.250
  • And they found, some time ago,
  • 00:16:30.250 --> 00:16:33.100
  • they found a boat from the time of Jesus,
  • 00:16:33.100 --> 00:16:35.260
  • they carbon-dated it,
  • 00:16:35.260 --> 00:16:37.170
  • and they carefully dug it up
  • 00:16:37.170 --> 00:16:39.210
  • out of the Sea of Galilee.
  • 00:16:39.210 --> 00:16:41.120
  • And they put it in a museum in Magdala
  • 00:16:41.120 --> 00:16:43.120
  • on the west side of the Sea of Galilee.
  • 00:16:43.120 --> 00:16:45.250
  • The boat is 27 feet long,
  • 00:16:45.250 --> 00:16:48.130
  • seven and a half feet wide,
  • 00:16:48.130 --> 00:16:50.270
  • and has seater planks.
  • 00:16:50.270 --> 00:16:53.130
  • Now, 27 and a half feet,
  • 00:16:53.130 --> 00:16:54.250
  • that's about the size of the boat
  • 00:16:54.250 --> 00:16:56.210
  • that Jesus would have been in with his disciples.
  • 00:16:56.210 --> 00:16:58.230
  • That is not a big boat.
  • 00:16:58.230 --> 00:17:00.030
  • And that Sea of Galilee is pretty big.
  • 00:17:00.030 --> 00:17:02.250
  • And those storms hit pretty furious.
  • 00:17:02.250 --> 00:17:05.100
  • So, what I'm trying to say is that
  • 00:17:05.100 --> 00:17:08.100
  • sometimes in life it seems like
  • 00:17:08.100 --> 00:17:11.030
  • we're so small and life is so big
  • 00:17:11.030 --> 00:17:12.290
  • and it's coming against us hard.
  • 00:17:12.290 --> 00:17:15.100
  • Norwegian fishermen had a prayer.
  • 00:17:15.100 --> 00:17:18.070
  • Oh Lord, take care of us.
  • 00:17:18.070 --> 00:17:20.190
  • The sea is so vast and our boat is so small.
  • 00:17:20.190 --> 00:17:24.170
  • And that's what I really want you to get.
  • 00:17:25.290 --> 00:17:28.190
  • That even though there're accidents,
  • 00:17:28.190 --> 00:17:32.040
  • hurricanes, storms, terrorism,
  • 00:17:32.040 --> 00:17:36.000
  • politics, relationship problems, addictions,
  • 00:17:36.000 --> 00:17:39.270
  • we were assured time and time again
  • 00:17:39.270 --> 00:17:43.040
  • that although there're storms and hardships,
  • 00:17:44.100 --> 00:17:46.270
  • that Jesus is in the boat.
  • 00:17:46.270 --> 00:17:49.080
  • And not only is he in the boat and with us,
  • 00:17:49.080 --> 00:17:52.100
  • he cares for us.
  • 00:17:52.100 --> 00:17:54.110
  • I love that saying from Scripture.
  • 00:17:54.110 --> 00:17:56.040
  • Cast your care on God
  • 00:17:56.040 --> 00:17:58.150
  • because God cares for you.
  • 00:17:58.150 --> 00:18:00.170
  • Right now as you're watching,
  • 00:18:00.170 --> 00:18:02.090
  • as you're listening, God cares for you.
  • 00:18:02.090 --> 00:18:05.270
  • Recently I produced a four-episode series
  • 00:18:05.270 --> 00:18:09.170
  • on the 12-step program.
  • 00:18:09.170 --> 00:18:11.150
  • 12 steps having to do with addictions of every type.
  • 00:18:11.150 --> 00:18:15.000
  • And in order to come into recovery,
  • 00:18:15.000 --> 00:18:17.130
  • a person, first of all, has to admit
  • 00:18:17.130 --> 00:18:19.230
  • that they have an addiction.
  • 00:18:19.230 --> 00:18:21.150
  • They're powerless over the addiction.
  • 00:18:21.150 --> 00:18:23.220
  • Then the third step is this,
  • 00:18:23.220 --> 00:18:25.230
  • they surrender their lives not only to God
  • 00:18:25.230 --> 00:18:28.220
  • but to the care of God.
  • 00:18:29.280 --> 00:18:33.020
  • And I love that because
  • 00:18:33.020 --> 00:18:34.190
  • what you're doing is professing
  • 00:18:35.170 --> 00:18:37.050
  • that not only do you have
  • 00:18:37.050 --> 00:18:38.110
  • a higher power that can help you,
  • 00:18:38.110 --> 00:18:40.230
  • but that there's strength,
  • 00:18:40.230 --> 00:18:43.030
  • that God cares, He's solicitors for you,
  • 00:18:43.030 --> 00:18:47.040
  • He's concerned over your welfare,
  • 00:18:47.040 --> 00:18:49.140
  • and He will help you.
  • 00:18:49.140 --> 00:18:51.080
  • We don't just have a power,
  • 00:18:51.080 --> 00:18:53.080
  • we have a personal God who cares for us deeply.
  • 00:18:53.080 --> 00:18:56.220
  • Jesus taught about that when he said,
  • 00:18:56.220 --> 00:18:59.270
  • "Look at the birds of the air.
  • 00:18:59.270 --> 00:19:01.290
  • "They neither toil nor gather into barns,
  • 00:19:01.290 --> 00:19:05.200
  • "yet your heavenly Father feeds them."
  • 00:19:05.200 --> 00:19:08.030
  • And how much more will He take care of you,
  • 00:19:08.030 --> 00:19:10.270
  • oh little faith.
  • 00:19:10.270 --> 00:19:12.070
  • So, I'm inviting you to trust.
  • 00:19:12.070 --> 00:19:15.140
  • That's one of my favorite prayers.
  • 00:19:15.140 --> 00:19:16.260
  • Jesus, I don't understand
  • 00:19:16.260 --> 00:19:19.150
  • but I trust in you.
  • 00:19:19.150 --> 00:19:20.210
  • That's one of my favorite prayers.
  • 00:19:22.050 --> 00:19:23.150
  • At night I'll often times pray that.
  • 00:19:23.150 --> 00:19:25.080
  • Jesus, I trust in you.
  • 00:19:25.080 --> 00:19:27.270
  • That's the prayer of the desert.
  • 00:19:27.270 --> 00:19:29.280
  • The early church fathers used to go
  • 00:19:29.280 --> 00:19:31.140
  • into the desert and they would say,
  • 00:19:31.140 --> 00:19:32.200
  • "Lord Jesus, Son of God,
  • 00:19:32.200 --> 00:19:34.170
  • "have mercy on me."
  • 00:19:34.170 --> 00:19:36.130
  • It's that prayer of trusting in Jesus for mercy.
  • 00:19:36.130 --> 00:19:40.030
  • So, I invite you to simply trust,
  • 00:19:40.030 --> 00:19:43.190
  • to give yourself to Christ.
  • 00:19:43.190 --> 00:19:45.060
  • No matter what's happening,
  • 00:19:45.060 --> 00:19:46.210
  • no matter what storm that you're going through.
  • 00:19:46.210 --> 00:19:48.200
  • So, they woke Jesus up
  • 00:19:48.200 --> 00:19:51.280
  • and when Jesus asleep
  • 00:19:53.130 --> 00:19:55.280
  • because he was trusting in God,
  • 00:19:55.280 --> 00:19:57.260
  • he wakes up and notice what he did.
  • 00:19:59.010 --> 00:20:00.100
  • He stands up to the storm.
  • 00:20:00.100 --> 00:20:01.260
  • He didn't run, he didn't cower and fear.
  • 00:20:01.260 --> 00:20:04.230
  • He said to the storm, "Peace!
  • 00:20:04.230 --> 00:20:07.250
  • "Be still."
  • 00:20:07.250 --> 00:20:08.270
  • And there was a great calm.
  • 00:20:09.250 --> 00:20:11.170
  • Somebody sent me a lithograph one time
  • 00:20:13.200 --> 00:20:15.190
  • that I absolutely love.
  • 00:20:15.190 --> 00:20:18.150
  • It said, "It's not the storm
  • 00:20:19.130 --> 00:20:21.210
  • "outside of you God tries to calm,
  • 00:20:21.210 --> 00:20:24.140
  • "it's the storm inside of you."
  • 00:20:24.140 --> 00:20:26.220
  • And I was so touched by that
  • 00:20:28.040 --> 00:20:29.100
  • because I can be anxious and worried
  • 00:20:29.100 --> 00:20:32.120
  • and nervous and people that I talk to,
  • 00:20:32.120 --> 00:20:34.270
  • one of the great afflictions,
  • 00:20:34.270 --> 00:20:36.030
  • the mental afflictions that people have,
  • 00:20:36.030 --> 00:20:38.130
  • seems to be this whole thing about stress
  • 00:20:38.130 --> 00:20:40.200
  • and anxiety and worry and hardship.
  • 00:20:40.200 --> 00:20:43.240
  • Some people are having trouble with insomnia,
  • 00:20:43.240 --> 00:20:46.070
  • having trouble sleeping
  • 00:20:46.070 --> 00:20:48.000
  • because their thoughts are negative
  • 00:20:48.000 --> 00:20:49.280
  • and they're just anxious and worried and fearful
  • 00:20:49.280 --> 00:20:52.220
  • and all this stuff going around.
  • 00:20:52.220 --> 00:20:54.140
  • I read a book, one of my favorite books
  • 00:20:54.140 --> 00:20:56.140
  • by Norman Vincent Peale,
  • 00:20:56.140 --> 00:20:58.180
  • great author, great minister.
  • 00:20:58.180 --> 00:21:01.020
  • He wrote that book called
  • 00:21:01.020 --> 00:21:02.030
  • The Power of Positive Thinking.
  • 00:21:02.030 --> 00:21:04.110
  • In that book, he talks about replacing
  • 00:21:04.110 --> 00:21:07.070
  • negative harassing thoughts
  • 00:21:07.070 --> 00:21:10.070
  • with a positive thought.
  • 00:21:10.070 --> 00:21:12.000
  • In psychology, this is called
  • 00:21:12.000 --> 00:21:13.250
  • cognitive replacement therapy.
  • 00:21:13.250 --> 00:21:17.070
  • And basically what it said is this.
  • 00:21:17.070 --> 00:21:18.210
  • When you have a negative thought
  • 00:21:18.210 --> 00:21:19.290
  • that's coming against you, a stormy thought,
  • 00:21:19.290 --> 00:21:21.280
  • a stressful thought, a nervous thought,
  • 00:21:21.280 --> 00:21:24.190
  • simply say peace, calm, serenity,
  • 00:21:24.190 --> 00:21:29.140
  • tranquility, healing, shalom.
  • 00:21:30.220 --> 00:21:34.060
  • If you know anything about this story,
  • 00:21:35.110 --> 00:21:36.210
  • Jesus was going over to the other side,
  • 00:21:36.210 --> 00:21:38.170
  • what was the other side?
  • 00:21:38.170 --> 00:21:40.150
  • It was the Gentile territory.
  • 00:21:40.150 --> 00:21:42.270
  • So, evil was throwing a storm at him
  • 00:21:42.270 --> 00:21:45.280
  • to try to prevent him from going over.
  • 00:21:45.280 --> 00:21:48.170
  • If you know anything about trying
  • 00:21:48.170 --> 00:21:49.250
  • to realize your dreams, trying to write a book,
  • 00:21:49.250 --> 00:21:52.070
  • trying to produce for television,
  • 00:21:52.070 --> 00:21:53.280
  • trying to do anything significant in life,
  • 00:21:53.280 --> 00:21:56.080
  • evil will try to stop you
  • 00:21:56.080 --> 00:21:57.280
  • and throw things at you.
  • 00:21:57.280 --> 00:21:59.190
  • But what I've learned and God has spoken to me,
  • 00:21:59.190 --> 00:22:02.100
  • this to me many-many times is,
  • 00:22:02.100 --> 00:22:04.040
  • don't be intimidated by the storms.
  • 00:22:04.040 --> 00:22:07.130
  • Don't be intimidated by the difficulties of your life.
  • 00:22:07.130 --> 00:22:10.180
  • When hardships come against you
  • 00:22:10.180 --> 00:22:12.050
  • stand strong and like Jesus, don't run,
  • 00:22:12.050 --> 00:22:15.000
  • face the storm.
  • 00:22:15.000 --> 00:22:17.020
  • In the strength of God.
  • 00:22:17.020 --> 00:22:19.060
  • And you will have peace
  • 00:22:19.060 --> 00:22:21.130
  • and serenity and calm
  • 00:22:21.130 --> 00:22:24.120
  • right in the middle of the storm.
  • 00:22:24.120 --> 00:22:25.250
  • It doesn't mean that the storms of your life will stop.
  • 00:22:25.250 --> 00:22:28.190
  • But it means that you'll have strength in the storm.
  • 00:22:28.190 --> 00:22:31.160
  • That's the great prayer of the 12-step program.
  • 00:22:31.160 --> 00:22:34.100
  • If you know anything about the 12 step,
  • 00:22:34.100 --> 00:22:35.190
  • of course, people that are addicted
  • 00:22:35.190 --> 00:22:37.100
  • and Al-Anon, spouses, family members
  • 00:22:37.100 --> 00:22:40.280
  • of those who are addicted,
  • 00:22:40.280 --> 00:22:42.160
  • they have adopted the prayer
  • 00:22:42.160 --> 00:22:43.220
  • of Reinhold Niebuhr which says,
  • 00:22:43.220 --> 00:22:46.000
  • "God, grant me the serenity,
  • 00:22:46.000 --> 00:22:48.180
  • "the serenity to accept the things
  • 00:22:48.180 --> 00:22:51.120
  • "that I cannot change,
  • 00:22:51.120 --> 00:22:53.090
  • "the courage to change the things that I can,
  • 00:22:53.090 --> 00:22:55.060
  • "and the wisdom to know the difference."
  • 00:22:55.060 --> 00:22:56.260
  • And there's so much in life that we cannot change,
  • 00:22:56.260 --> 00:22:59.140
  • that's out of our control,
  • 00:22:59.140 --> 00:23:00.280
  • the storms that blow in.
  • 00:23:00.280 --> 00:23:02.140
  • But you can have serenity right in the middle of it
  • 00:23:02.140 --> 00:23:04.190
  • because Jesus is with you.
  • 00:23:04.190 --> 00:23:07.030
  • And I want to impress that upon you.
  • 00:23:08.070 --> 00:23:10.180
  • So, Jesus stood up to his storms
  • 00:23:10.180 --> 00:23:14.080
  • and you can stand up to your storms.
  • 00:23:14.080 --> 00:23:17.150
  • So, what storms are you going through right now?
  • 00:23:17.150 --> 00:23:19.260
  • Maybe relationship problems, grieving,
  • 00:23:19.260 --> 00:23:24.000
  • and addiction that's got a hold of you,
  • 00:23:24.000 --> 00:23:26.040
  • sickness of some kind,
  • 00:23:26.040 --> 00:23:29.040
  • a breakup, an accident, a tragedy,
  • 00:23:30.160 --> 00:23:34.170
  • money problems.
  • 00:23:34.170 --> 00:23:35.160
  • I assure you from this story
  • 00:23:35.160 --> 00:23:38.260
  • Jesus is in the boat.
  • 00:23:38.260 --> 00:23:41.020
  • God is with you.
  • 00:23:42.100 --> 00:23:44.120
  • We're all on a pilgrimage.
  • 00:23:44.120 --> 00:23:46.130
  • It's a faith journey.
  • 00:23:46.130 --> 00:23:47.180
  • We're going to the other side.
  • 00:23:47.180 --> 00:23:49.070
  • And as we go to the other side
  • 00:23:49.070 --> 00:23:50.270
  • we're gonna face storms.
  • 00:23:50.270 --> 00:23:52.080
  • There will be hardships.
  • 00:23:52.080 --> 00:23:53.160
  • Being a disciple of Jesus does not exempt us
  • 00:23:53.160 --> 00:23:55.210
  • from storms, that story is telling us that.
  • 00:23:55.210 --> 00:23:58.090
  • The apostles, Jesus had to go through it
  • 00:23:58.090 --> 00:24:00.080
  • and we have to go through it too.
  • 00:24:00.080 --> 00:24:01.230
  • But I'll tell you this, this too shall pass.
  • 00:24:01.230 --> 00:24:05.000
  • Seasons are like this.
  • 00:24:05.000 --> 00:24:06.100
  • There's ups and downs.
  • 00:24:06.100 --> 00:24:08.000
  • It's a faith pilgrimage and Jesus is with us.
  • 00:24:08.000 --> 00:24:11.100
  • And because he's with us we can be strong.
  • 00:24:11.100 --> 00:24:13.070
  • Second of all, our boat is small
  • 00:24:13.070 --> 00:24:16.020
  • and the sea is vast but God cares for us.
  • 00:24:16.020 --> 00:24:20.040
  • He's concerned for our welfare.
  • 00:24:20.040 --> 00:24:21.270
  • Cast your care on God
  • 00:24:21.270 --> 00:24:24.020
  • because God cares for you.
  • 00:24:24.020 --> 00:24:26.110
  • Then take responsibility for your own thoughts.
  • 00:24:26.110 --> 00:24:29.140
  • Just because you have negative thoughts
  • 00:24:29.140 --> 00:24:31.000
  • and you have stressful thoughts,
  • 00:24:31.000 --> 00:24:32.130
  • it doesn't mean that you have to entertain them.
  • 00:24:32.130 --> 00:24:35.050
  • Peace, serenity, tranquility.
  • 00:24:35.050 --> 00:24:39.060
  • Speak it out of your mouth.
  • 00:24:39.060 --> 00:24:40.240
  • Calm, healing, shalom.
  • 00:24:40.240 --> 00:24:44.220
  • Cognitive replacement therapy.
  • 00:24:44.220 --> 00:24:47.100
  • And then trust in Jesus.
  • 00:24:47.100 --> 00:24:49.030
  • No matter what you're going through,
  • 00:24:50.050 --> 00:24:51.290
  • he'll take you through,
  • 00:24:51.290 --> 00:24:53.210
  • he'll take you to the other side.
  • 00:24:53.210 --> 00:24:55.280
  • So storms are gonna come, storms are gonna go,
  • 00:24:55.280 --> 00:24:58.260
  • in this great pilgrimage of life,
  • 00:24:58.260 --> 00:25:00.100
  • but realize this.
  • 00:25:00.100 --> 00:25:02.010
  • God cares for you
  • 00:25:02.010 --> 00:25:03.020
  • and because He cares for you
  • 00:25:03.020 --> 00:25:04.200
  • cast your care on God
  • 00:25:04.200 --> 00:25:06.180
  • because He cares for you.
  • 00:25:06.180 --> 00:25:07.250
  • And don't just live, live with passion.
  • 00:25:07.250 --> 00:25:10.000
  • It's my hope that you'll experience
  • 00:25:14.080 --> 00:25:16.290
  • peace, serenity,
  • 00:25:16.290 --> 00:25:20.020
  • tranquility deep in your heart.
  • 00:25:20.020 --> 00:25:21.260
  • Speak those words out of your heart.
  • 00:25:21.260 --> 00:25:23.140
  • The Prince of Peace will help you.
  • 00:25:23.140 --> 00:25:25.130
  • I wrote a book called Thy Kingdom Come!
  • 00:25:25.130 --> 00:25:27.230
  • In that book, I talk about peace
  • 00:25:27.230 --> 00:25:29.140
  • and I talk about prayer that'll help you too.
  • 00:25:29.140 --> 00:25:31.250
  • I received a letter from a group of women
  • 00:25:31.250 --> 00:25:33.170
  • in Maryland who are studying my book.
  • 00:25:33.170 --> 00:25:35.110
  • I think there's about 20 of them.
  • 00:25:35.110 --> 00:25:37.060
  • They said, "Father, thank you for your books.
  • 00:25:37.060 --> 00:25:38.190
  • "You've inspired us.
  • 00:25:38.190 --> 00:25:40.050
  • "You've kept our faith, hope and love
  • 00:25:40.050 --> 00:25:41.250
  • "alive in our hearts."
  • 00:25:41.250 --> 00:25:43.050
  • That really encourages me.
  • 00:25:43.050 --> 00:25:45.020
  • I thank you.
  • 00:25:45.020 --> 00:25:46.000
  • Whenever I hear from you,
  • 00:25:46.000 --> 00:25:47.180
  • when you write me letters,
  • 00:25:47.180 --> 00:25:49.140
  • some of you email me,
  • 00:25:49.140 --> 00:25:51.200
  • some of you call my ministry line,
  • 00:25:51.200 --> 00:25:53.210
  • that really encourages me.
  • 00:25:53.210 --> 00:25:55.180
  • When you purchase my books,
  • 00:25:55.180 --> 00:25:56.260
  • the DVD of this program, what it does is,
  • 00:25:56.260 --> 00:25:59.010
  • it supports my television program
  • 00:25:59.010 --> 00:26:01.050
  • so that I can reach out everywhere.
  • 00:26:01.050 --> 00:26:03.050
  • And I specially thank my partners,
  • 00:26:03.050 --> 00:26:05.210
  • those of you who have made donations to me,
  • 00:26:05.210 --> 00:26:08.130
  • those of you who are partnering with me monthly.
  • 00:26:08.130 --> 00:26:11.010
  • I so so appreciate it.
  • 00:26:11.010 --> 00:26:12.160
  • It encourages me, as I said.
  • 00:26:12.160 --> 00:26:14.170
  • So please write to me.
